What You Need to Know About My Switch to Shampoo & Conditioner Bars!

For 3 years I exclusively used baking soda and vinegar to wash my hair, but this no poo method left my hair damaged and hard to manage.  I finally resigned myself to buying all natural shampoos and conditioners package in 'sustainable' plastic bottles again but it was soul crushing and I felt guilty about the associated waste.  Despite washing my hair just twice a week, keeping my showers short, and making better choices in other areas to help offset my shortcomings, I knew I could do better.

For months I have been thinking about making the switch to shampoo & conditioner bars for, but hadn't pulled the trigger.  I'd heard terrible reviews by some people who had tried them, they can be expensive and I couldn't find a local seller.

My life changed when I discovered that a friend from high school, Lauren, is now living in Kentucky as a homesteader.  She lives and teaches sustainability & self reliance while caring for all sorts of animals on her ranch.  Naturally, I am over the moon about this and have made it a mission to visit her bed & breakfast at some point.

When I saw a social media post advertising a fresh batch of shampoo and conditioner bars I immediately reached out to Lauren and made a purchase.  Let me tell you, my excitement escalated when I received my package from 'Til The Rooster Crows Ranch and I was utterly elated when I actually got to try my new bars.

First of all, I was majorly impressed by the price of these goats milk bars and how quickly they arrived.  When I opened the package I was immediately stunned by the beauty and scent of the bars and pleasantly surprised by the bonus epsom salt rosemary face scrub that was included.  Knowing that Lauren made these from locally sourced ingredients and milk from the goats she raises makes the whole experience that much better.

I impatiently waited 3 days to wash my hair again and was blown away by how well the bars seem to have worked.  The shampoo bar lathered well and the conditioner bar really softened my hair and left my skin feeling moisturized (all the bars double as body bars!).  I also tried the face scrub which I will definitely be purchasing with my next order because it left my skin feeling squeaky clean without drying it out and the scent is divine.

I usually use a conditioner, leave in conditioner cream, and detangling spray just to brush through my hair after the shower which is always a nightmare since it's ridiculously knotty.  Not today!  After using the shampoo & conditioner bar I was able to brush right through my hair for the first time in as long as I can remember...it was GLORIOUS!

Replacing my hair care products with these simple bars is a game changer.  No more chemicals, no more plastic packaging, no more damaged hair.  It has never been this easy to declutter my bathroom, improve my health, save money, support a small business, and protect the planet all at the same time.

  1. This is great! I use shampoo bars but I've had a lot of trouble finding a conditioning bar that doesn't feel waxy or leave a residue. You've sold me on trying this one!

  4. I love some of the shampoo bars I've tried so far! They're a lovely zero waste option. I do find that I have to use an apple cider vinegar conditioner rinse too though!
